A Favor For God
God asked me a favor once…

Will you love them while I’m gone?
But I don’t know how.
(Smiling, God took my hand)
What if I fail?
You my child are flawless.
But what if one of them needs you?
Know he is your disciple… and your teacher.
But what if one cries?
Remove the thorn and bring him the rose from which he bled.
And if one lies?
Celebrate her truth.
And if lonely?
Place his hand on his heart.
But what if one mourns?
Invite her to love you, for she is grieving the opportunity to give.
What if he thirsts?
Collect raindrops, and feed him, as the clouds do you.
And if they are cold?
Carry them barefoot to the sun.
What if one feels heartbreak?
Climb into its chamber and plant flowers in its cleft.
And if one is silent?
Tiptoe through her garden, sanctify her peace.
What if one feels loveless?
Offer yourself.
And what if one loves me, like he does You?
Then know my child
He has no need.
He is home.
